CROSSVILLE, TN (Jan. 5) - - After an impending sale of Crossville Raceway USA fell thru in early December, track owner Calvin Cheek proceeded to begin
plans for the 2004 season.
Under the ownership and promotion of Cheek, the track will see it's second year of continuous weekly operation on Friday nights, after several years of being dormant to
weekly racing.
"We are planning 10 or so big Super Late Model events in addition to running them weekly with our UMP Open Wheel Modifieds, Front Wheel Drives, Cruisers and a
new Pro Street-type class." Said Cheek. "We couldn't get a sale worked out and I had put so much in to giving Crossville a dependable program last year, we just decided to keep it going for 2004."
"Richard Cunningham of Straight Circles Communications is putting together the schedule and we are working on the 2004 rule book as we've already announced a No Foolin'
April 2 $2,000 to win season opening event." continued Cheek.
"Crossville will be hosting two NARA Battle of Bluegrass Series events, or a BoB and NARA National event, we are still working out the details. Said Cunningham.
"And are looking at the other options for the other specials that Calvin wants to do. The Ray Cheek Memorial will naturally return as one of the premier events for the track in '04."
Already on the schedule is a June 25th Stacker 2 Xtreme National Series event, being promoted by Doug Bland and his Xtreme staff.
The track will make one change in it's Super Late Model program from the 2003 season, by allowing American Racer and GoodYear tires in addition to the standing Hoosiers.
All will be required to meet a minimum durometer reading.

XTREME POWER ON THE PLATEAU
A large crowd turned out Friday night June 27, at
Crossville Speedway to enjoy the Xtreme Power on the Plateau Race.
The main event featured the Xtreme Dirt Late Model Series with
Dale McDowell taking the win. The support race featured the
Modified Lite Dirt Cars. H&E Chassis, Leader Chassis and Saval
Racing Technology, and Full Throttle Performance Parts sponsored
the Modified Lite race with help and special thanks to the
Crossville Speedway and the Xtreme Dirt Series. The spectators got
a great show with a large field of cars. The Modified Lites had
twenty-one modified and classic cars. The Modified division ran
two heat races to determine the starting line up. Kelly Glass
gained inside pole while Herschel Cronin held the outside pole
position. Tracy Fritter and Ron Wick sat in the second row with
Tom Buckingham and Ken Osteen in row three. It was a 25-lap race
and Glass led the first lap with Cronin and Fritter on his bumper.
With three laps down Rusty Harris and Travis Leake went around in
turn two bringing out the caution. On the restart it was still
Glass in the lead followed by Fritter, Cronin, and Tom Buckingham.
The race remained under green with Glass, Fritter, Cronin, Tom
Buckingham and Shannon Buckingham running in the top five
positions. S.Buckingham was the car on the move and had soon moved
into third place position. Then Jeff Danner spun on the
backstretch and the caution was brought out. He got going again
and the race was restarted with the top five being Glass, Fritter,
S.Buckingham, Cronin and Wick. The next lap S.Buckingham moved
into second and Wick moved into fourth. Everyone was running close
but especially S.Buckingham and Fritter. They were two wide going
into the turns and suddenly Danner lost his motor going into turn
three and the caution was out. When the green fell it was Glass,
S.Buckingham, Fritter, Wick, and Cronin in the top five. This time
S.Buckingham was running two wide with Glass and Fritter was right
on their bumper. The next lap S.Buckingham had the lead then
Buckingham, Glass and Fritter went three wide into turn four.
Glass hit the outside wall and the caution fell again. On the
restart it was S. Buckingham, Fritter, Wick, Randal Klepper, and
Cronin in the top five. S. Buckingham began to gain a car link or
two when Glass went around in turn four and Jerry Cushing went
around in turn two bringing out the caution. On the restart it was
S. Buckingham, Fritter, and Wick in the top three. The next lap
they were racing hard with everyone close and Fritter went around
in the turn with the caution out once more. S. Buckingham, Wick
and Harris rounded out the top three when the green fell this
time. The race continued under green with Shannon Buckingham
taking the win, along with a $500 purse, Harris finished second
and Wick took third.

6-27-03 - What an Xtreme
Night of Xtreme Racing at Crossville Raceway USA tonight!! Give
those cars some little wings and Watch them Fly! They Already
drive on 2 wheels around the turns!!! The field was full and the
cars were hot and All the drivers were after that 10 grand purse,
so needless to say the racing was Very Action Packed! They
started the feature with something like 40 cars after running 4
heat races and a couple consolation races! Can You Just Imagine
the 'feeling' of the Rolling Thunder of 40 Xtreme Late Models
flying around the Crossville track sideways?!! Most Awesome
Feeling I have ever experienced!-) But in the end after all the
battling and adrenaline pumping racing, Dale
McDowell out of Rossville, GA driving the number Dan
Schlieper who was a Long way from his home in Pewaukee, WI
driving the number Ronnie Johnson was sixth,
Scott Bloomquist seventh, Steve Francis was eighth, Duayne Hommell
finished ninth, Matt Miller tenth, Ray Cook eleventh, Billy Ogle
Jr twelfth, Donnie Moran thirteenth, Jimmy Mars fourteenth, Rick
Eckert fifteenth, Shane Tankersley sixteenth, Steve Shaver
seventeenth, Joe Arms eighteenth, Brandon Kinzer nineteenth, Jeff
Smith twentieth, Chris Madden twenty-first, Freddy Smith
twenty-second, Brian Birkhofer twenty-third, and Randy Weaver

out the Crossville
Speedway Website or the Xtreme
Series Website to get the Official Results!
There was Another division racing at Crossville tonight, but I be
danged if I know what they were! Some of them looked like the Dwarf
Cars, while others looked like open wheels that had been washed in
Hot Water and Shrank!! But there were quite a Lot of them and they
put on a pretty good show too. And a Lot of Them even went around
the curves Sideways!
The Xtreme Series will be running in TN Saturday night at Tazewell
Speedway, so Be Sure and drive up and watch all the action! No
telling How Long it will be before the Xtreme Series races Two
Nights in a Row in Tennessee!!!
Or if your not in the mood for dirt, but want to see some Action
Packed Asphalt Racin, come on out and see me Saturday night at Riverview
Speedway in Carthage TN!!
Oh, and I have the photos I took of Crossville (and Riverview)
last week up on my Stomys.biz
website if you want to check them out. And I will have the Xtreme
at Crossville (and Riverview's) photos up asap!-) Have a
Great and a Safe Week and I'll see you at Some Track Next Week!-)
6-20-03 - I Finally made
it to Crossville Speedway tonight and I had forgotten just how
good dirt racin was (not really!-). But I Was Impressed! It is a
Great Facility, Fast Track, Friendly People; if was was to give it
a grade I believe it would be an A+, epically for a Dirt
Track! And the only thing I had to dodge was the Mud
Balls!-) The Stands were Packed, the Pits were Filled with
Cars and the Racing was Great!! Only thing I Might would have
changed would have made the temperature about 10degrees warmer:-)
I will Defiantly go back! Especially Next Friday, June 27the when
they are having the eXtreem Late Models! Now THAT Will Be Awesome!
But YOU need to go see for yourself! Click
HERE for Directions to the track:-) Oh, and since the folks at
Crossville Speedway were SO Nice to me and made me feel rite at
home, I will be adding them to my 'Featured Tracks' area, both
here on RacinStation and on MiddleTennesseeRacingNews! And I plan
to get on their mailing list so I can provide you all with the
highlights and results even on nights I'm not there:-)
I'm going to 'cheat' just a little since I don't know all the
drivers names yet, and go to the Crossville
Website to get the winners in each division, but Be Sure
and Check the Tracks
Website for all the Official Results!
The Night was Filled with Action Packed Racin yet few cars got a
lot of damage to them that I saw.. impressive:-) And they
had a thing for the kids on the front straightaway were they threw
out a Whole Bunch of Quarters on the track, and turned ALL Those
'munchkins' loose on the track to see how many they could pick up!
Munchkins Galore! They had a blast. Sorry, but I don't have a clue
the name of the child that actually won... or really even how they
figured Out who won!-)
They Also had a wild deal at the end of the races called the 'Cruisers"
I believe, and it was the dangdest thing I ever saw! Get your
granny's Cadillac and bring it on up! just be sure and bring a
buddy to work the peddles for you!!!
Oh, and here are the results I got from their website (you'll have
to check it out yourself to get ALL the info!-) www.crossvilleracewayusa.com
